Hello crafty friends!
Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful workshop by Aditi Mahajan. It was a smaller group this time, filled with sweet and creative people, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
The workshop came at exactly the right time for me. I had a difficult week beforehand, and this class gave me something I really needed: a few hours to relax, focus on creativity, and simply enjoy crafting. As a bonus, I finished the workshop with two cards that I was genuinely happy with.
What I Learned
I really love Aditi’s style of cardmaking, her use of color, and the feeling she brings into her designs. Her teaching style is just as wonderful. She gives everyone enough time to keep up, encourages us to use what we already have, and is always willing to help when we want to do something differently.
That motivates me even more to think for myself rather than simply follow the steps of a project. I have always tried to do that, but this workshop reminded me how valuable it is to make creative choices of your own.
In this workshop I learned a lot about combining colors and about scene building. More importantly, it showed me how design choices work together to create a feeling. That is why this class came at the perfect time, right after my last two AECP classes. I could immediately see those lessons reflected in these projects.
My Cards
Both cards were created using products from the Altenew May release. While they share many of the same supplies and colors, they create completely different feelings and show different ways of using those products.
Card 1
What I really love about this card is that it was created entirely with the Craft Your Life Project Kit: The Drawing Room.
Although the card contains plenty of texture and color, it still feels soft and calm. The texture keeps it interesting while the design naturally draws your eye to the floral focal point and then to the sentiment. The embellishments are used sparingly and help guide the eye without distracting from the flowers.
The colors and overall design support the sentiment beautifully. Looking at this card, I can clearly see the influence of the recent AECP lessons. The design choices work together to create a specific feeling, making the sentiment even stronger.
Card 2
The idea of using the flowers as a repetitive wallpaper pattern is brilliant, and the same can be said for the floor motif. It is a wonderful example of how supplies can be used in unexpected ways.
But what I love most is the feeling this design creates. The wallpaper, the chair, and the lamp all contribute to a warm and cozy atmosphere. Together they create that comforting feeling of home.
The colors play an important role as well. The purple furniture combined with the soft pink tones in the background adds warmth and softness to the scene. Every element supports the sentiment, making it feel natural and meaningful.
This card is a perfect example of how design choices can strengthen a message.
Reflection
This workshop was a wonderful addition to my last two AECP classes. It brought together many of the concepts I have been learning, especially the use of color, scene building, and finding new ways to use supplies.
What I learned in this workshop goes beyond techniques or color combinations. It reminded me that a card is not defined by one design choice, but by the combination of all those choices working together to create a feeling and support the message.
The timing of this workshop was perfect. It allowed me to recognize those lessons in real projects and helped me understand them on a deeper level.
Cardmaking is so much fun, but it can also be so much more. Through thoughtful design choices, we can strengthen a sentiment and create something that truly connects with the recipient.
Thank you so much, Aditi, for another inspiring workshop!
