One Design, Different Colors

For my first tags, I used the same basic design from the Winter Woodland Set but changed the colors.

This is something I really enjoy doing when making Christmas projects. You can use exactly the same stamps and dies, but by changing the colors, the whole project can feel different.

I also made these tags so they open, giving you a little more space to write a message inside.

Sometimes a small change is all you need to get several different looks from one idea.

A Christmas Tag Doesn't Have to Be Square

For my second example, I decided to play with the shape.

I made a triangular tag with a little winter scene. It might not be the first shape you think of when you hear “gift tag,” but it still works perfectly as a tag.

And that's really the point I wanted to show with this example: don't be afraid to step outside the usual shapes.

As long as you can actually use it as a gift tag, there is no reason it has to look exactly like every other tag. 

I also made sure to finish the back with space for the To and From, because pretty is nice… but a gift tag still needs to do its job. 😂

Another Unusual Shape

For the third tag, I went in a completely different direction again.

This one has more of an ornament-like shape, with a lantern and different greenery and flowers.

It could almost be mistaken for a Christmas ornament, but it is still a perfectly usable gift tag.

I really liked making this one because it reminded me that we sometimes put unnecessary limits on ourselves when we make Christmas projects.

We think, “A tag has to look like this.”

But does it?

Probably not. 

A More Traditional Gift Tag

And finally, I made a larger, more traditional gift-tag shape.

This one has a Christmas mug, greenery, berries and a spoon, with a sentiment on the front.

Sometimes traditional is exactly what you want!

I added the "To and From" on the back again, so this one is ready to go straight onto a Christmas present.

Useful AND Beautiful

For the challenge, I asked everyone to make a Christmas gift tag that is both useful and beautiful.

I didn't want to put too many rules around it. You can use stamps, dies, unusual shapes, traditional shapes, lots of decoration or keep it simple.

The important thing is that it is actually usable as a gift tag.

And most importantly: have fun with it! ❤️

You don't need to copy any of my examples. In fact, I would much rather see what you come up with using the supplies you already have.

Maybe you have a stamp set that would make a great tag. Maybe you have a die that could be turned into an unusual tag shape. Or maybe you have an idea sitting in the back of your mind that you haven't tried yet.

This is the perfect excuse to try it. 

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed making these tags because they made me think a little differently about Christmas projects.

They don't all have to look alike, and they don't all have to be made from traditional tag shapes.

Sometimes all you need is a little idea to get started.

And if you are anything like me, once you start making Christmas tags, there is a pretty good chance you won't stop at one.
