Hello, my dear friends,
Last Saturday I joined a wonderful workshop with Ishani, and it was exactly what I needed: fun, creative and full of possibilities.
The workshop focused on layering, and Ishani created a beautiful card featuring sea creatures. She also used nesting dies that I didn't have.
But instead of trying to recreate her card without the right supplies, I started thinking about the idea behind the card.
What if I used the same layering principle, but made it my own?
I had the Ornate Nesting Dies, and I immediately thought: why not flowers?
And that is how this card came to life.
Taking the Idea and Running With It
I used the Ornate nesting dies to create the layered background and replaced the sea creatures from the workshop with a colourful arrangement of flowers from the EZ Arrangement Garden Mix.
From there, I allowed myself to experiment.
I used a combination of pink, red, peach and a tiny bit of purple for the flowers, together with several shades of green for the foliage. I added plenty of dimension by layering the flowers and leaves, allowing some elements to overlap and extend beyond the background.
And yes... I went a little rough. 😂
Instead of trying to make every detail perfectly controlled, I allowed myself to work more freely. I also added metallic splatters at the end, which gave the card some extra sparkle and helped bring everything together.
The Best Part of the Workshop
For me, the most valuable part of this workshop wasn't recreating Ishani's beautiful sea-creature card.
It was learning to look at the idea behind someone else's design and ask myself: How can I make this mine?
I didn't have the same nesting dies. I didn't use sea creatures. I used flowers, different colours and my own supplies.
But the principle of layering remained.
And somehow, that made the card feel much more like my card.
Final Thoughts
This workshop reminded me that inspiration doesn't have to mean making the same thing someone else made.
Sometimes you can take one idea, change the subject, change the colors, change the products—and discover where that idea takes you.
And this time, it took me straight into a garden full of flowers.
I had so much fun making this card, and I think that is the best result of all.
