Every year, Aditi celebrates her birthday with a special workshop, and of course I wanted to join in! I made this card during her birthday workshop a little while ago, but then the Cozy Comfort Retreat came along and this poor little artist's studio had to wait its turn.
Better late than never, right?
This card is, apart from a few little details, very much Aditi's original idea. And sometimes that's exactly what you need: just enjoy making the card, follow along and have fun!
And fun I had with this one. ❤️
The little painting on the easel is actually painted by us. We got to create our own little artwork, and I decided to go with flowers. I have to admit that my flowers look a little more like tiny ghosts than beautiful blooms, but hey... I had fun painting them! 😂
Of course, once I had chosen the flowers for my painting, there was no way I was going to ignore all the little details around it.
I matched the colors of the paint tubes to the colors in my little painting and added the same colors to the palette. The palette itself is inspired by the real Altenew palette, including the little gold frame. Such a fun detail to recreate.
And then Erum came up with a brilliant idea: adding Glossy Accents to the palette to give it that shiny, slightly glossy look of a real artist's palette.
Well... of course I had to do that! 😂
The black background with the gold splatters gives the little studio a dark backdrop, almost like the artwork and supplies are sitting under a spotlight. The gold frame around the card also helps bring a little warmth into the otherwise black-and-white setting.
I really enjoyed building this little scene. There are so many possibilities for what could go on that tiny canvas, and I was tempted to do something completely different.
But because this was Aditi's birthday workshop, I wanted to join in with the flowers and keep the little painting cheerful and colorful.
So no spooky changes from me this time.
But don't worry...
There is always a next time! 😂
Final Thoughts
I love cards that tell a little story, and this one definitely does.
There is an easel, a painting, a palette, brushes and little tubes of paint — and suddenly you have a tiny artist's studio sitting on a card.
It was also a nice reminder that not every workshop needs to become a complete reinterpretation. Sometimes it's just fun to make the project as it was intended, enjoy the process and celebrate the person who created it.
Thank you, Aditi, for another fun birthday workshop! ❤️
