One Set, Three Cups of Comfort | Altenew The Afternoon Spread

Hello sweet friends!

I love exploring how many different cards I can make with one set instead of making a card and moving on to the next one. It's fun to experiment with different colors, backgrounds, and little details to see how much the feeling of a card can change. And I already have so many more ideas with this set.

For these three cards, I used The Afternoon Spread. The cups and little cookies are simply too cute! There are two different cup designs in the set, so I started by making the cups and biscuits, which you can give extra dimension with the embossing folder and then explored three different ways to use them.

Card 1 — Calm and Clean

For my first card, I wanted a calm color palette and a clean design, but not a completely monochromatic look. I used a soft yellow  background, with turquoise flowers and warm, natural colors for the little details.

The arch and the small die-cut leaves are heat embossed, which adds lovely texture without making the card feel too busy. The cup of tea and cookies complete this quiet little scene. It's a simple card, but the different textures give it enough interest.

Card 2 — Soft, Colorful, and Cozy

This card was a lot of fun to make! I wanted something soft and cozy, but with plenty of color. I started with an ink-smooshed background in blues and pinks, then added stamped texture using gold pigment ink and clear embossing powder.

I cut the arch directly from the background and placed dark blue cardstock behind it. With such a colorful background, that darker area gives the eye a quieter place to rest. I also heat embossed the small die-cut leaves and the large sentiment to add more texture.

This time, the cup contains hot cocoa with whipped cream and cookies. I added texture to the whipped cream with heat embossing too, because even a cup of hot chocolate deserves a little special treatment! 😂 The small blue flowers finish the cozy scene.

Card 3 — A Little Cup of Comfort

This one was my little surprise: a clean card that still feels warm and comforting.

I kept the background subtle, using a light stamped pattern and a pale arch with the sentiment heat embossed on it. The pink flowers bring a little softness, while the darker teal cup creates a stronger focal point. And, of course, there are cookies again! One heat-embossed leaf and a few clear gems in the flower centers finish the design.

I like how this card feels different from the other two, even though it uses the same set and some of the same elements. It doesn't need a busy background or lots of layers to feel complete.

Final Thoughts

Making these three cards reminded me why I enjoy spending more time with one set. I can explore different color combinations, techniques, and moods without having to start with a completely different collection of products.

One card can be clean and calm, another colorful and full of texture, and a third warm and simple. The supplies are similar, but the choices I make change the whole feeling.

And now I'm curious: which cup of comfort would you choose — the calm blue tea, the colorful hot cocoa, or the simple teal cup?
