Two Cards, One Warm Autumn Feeling | Altenew

I love fall colors! There is something about those warm reds, oranges, yellows, and greens that makes me want to spend hours in my craft room.

For these two cards, I used mostly products from the Cozy Comfort Retreat. My apologies that some of these products aren't available for purchase, but I hope I can still give you some inspiration with these cards. After all, inspiration is one of the reasons I write my blog. I like sharing not only what I make, but also why I make certain design choices. Perhaps my thought process can be a little guide for your own creative projects, too.

For both cards, I started with the Dancing Leaves Stencil and Embossing Folder. I wanted really warm autumn colors, so I blended several colors into each leaf instead of keeping them all one color. Once I was happy with the coloring, I added Brushed Pyrite Shimmer Relief Paste to bring out the embossed details and give the leaves a beautiful shine.

I then cut the embossed cardstock into two pieces and tore the edges to give them a more natural look. One I put the paste on the edges and the other I ink-blended  the edges with a dark brown color.

And this is where the two cards took different directions!

Card 1 — A Little Light for Autumn

For the first card, I used the embossed leaf strip almost like a little tablecloth for the candles. I chose a warm coral background that worked with the leaves and added splatters for a little extra interest.

I kept the candles light, but not stark white. A little shading gave them dimension while keeping them soft enough to fit in with all those warm autumn colors. The daisies add a lighter touch, while the little leaves and twigs help complete the arrangement. A few Sicilian Amber Gem Sparkles were the finishing touch.

I wanted this card to feel warm and comforting, like lighting a few candles on a chilly autumn evening.

Card 2 — With Love

For the second card, I let the embossed leaf strip play a more decorative role. I placed it across a deep red background.

I added more autumn leaves above the strip, using the same warm color combinations as on the first card. Three white daisies bring a little light to the arrangement, while the sentiment and smaller supporting sentiment create a focal point in the center. One extra leaf underneath helps emphasize the sentiment, I splattered with gold for some extra interest and the Sicilian Amber Gem Sparkles add that final touch of shine.

Final Thoughts

Although both cards use the same main element and almost the same ink colors, they have quite a different feel. On the first card, the embossed strip supports the candles. On the second, it becomes part of the decorative design itself.

And that's something I love about cardmaking: you don't always need new supplies to create something different. Sometimes you just need to look at what you already have and ask yourself, “What else could I do with this?”

I had a lot of fun playing with these warm autumn colors, and I hope these two cards inspire you to get creative with your own supplies, too!
