Orange Marigolds with a Touch of Blue | Beautiful Blossoms Challenge | Altenew

When I saw this month's Beautiful Blossoms inspiration picture, full of beautiful orange marigolds, I knew I wanted to use those warm, cheerful colors on my card. Sometimes an inspiration picture immediately tells me where to start, and this was one of those times!

I started by creating my marigolds, blending different shades of orange to give the petals depth and dimension. I finished the flowers with yellow centers and made a few extra flowers along the way, but two were enough for this design. I wanted them to be the stars, so I kept the overall composition fairly simple.

For the background, I stamped a little text for extra interest and texture. I blended ink around the perimeter and added a slightly darker shade right along the edges to create some depth without making the background too busy.

The dark brown Heirloom Frame gives the flowers a beautiful contrast and adds a little vintage elegance. But I felt the composition needed one more touch of color. That's where the blue berries came in! The blue freshens up the warm orange and green, and I really like how these small details change the overall feeling of the card.

I kept the sentiment simple, using white and gold, and added a matching gold mat. A little gold splattering adds another layer of texture, while the Sicilian Amber Gem Sparkles give the card its finishing touch.

And a tiny confession: I managed to glue down my stamped background text upside down! 😂 Fortunately, it's subtle enough that you hardly notice it. I decided to leave it as it was and enjoy the card anyway. We card makers sometimes notice our little mistakes much more than anyone else does!

What I love about inspiration challenges is that I can take an element or a color palette from the inspiration picture and make it my own. I didn't need to recreate the whole picture. The orange marigolds were my starting point, and the rest of the design developed around what I felt the card needed.

I hope this card inspires you to play with warm colors, try an unexpected accent color, and see where your own creativity takes you.
